UV has noticed that female leads are consisting with 3 or more powerful ladies lately. This has been the norm (Charlie’s Angels, c’mon) – however, these new films are exploring women being fresh on their game through 2019 fem eyes. Let’s go through the list of same principals but very different movies so you UV fans can also have a wonder…
True story of charm and hustle, these ambitious strippers get together as they rinse wealthy men during the recession in the 00’s. First of all, HELL TO THE YES! A journalist interviews the ring leader to find out the full story (she wants the tasty scoop, just like UV!) This isn’t a ‘pick me’ film by any means. UV is watching Hustlers on its opening day, Sep 13th. Cannot wait to see the likes of J. Lo, Julia Stiles, Keke Palmer, Lizzo and Cardi B all together gracing the same screen. The line up is insanely magical. Special shout out to Stormi Maya, model to actress, for her first big role and you can also see her on Season 2 of ‘She’s Gotta Have It’ – a UV Netflix Series fav!
Again, another 3 stellar women – Charlize Theron, Nicole Kidman and Margot Robbie. This one is about the female Fox News personnel (the only fictional character is Margot’s) and their allegations against founder at the time, Roger Ailes. Even the official trailer is intense and we’re sure the movie is set to deliver the same intensity. The energy these Movie Academy Award Winners/Nominee have given in their other performances should be promising for Bombshell. If this film doesn’t scream “R.E.S.P.E.C.T ME!” – I truly don’t know anymore!
3. The Kitchen
UV has to admit, this film wasn’t rated highly. It’s made less than the budget and not had the most positive reviews. None the less, this movie has a girl power trio which is why UV are still happy to give it a watch to make up our own minds and maybe you can too. Tiffany Haddish, Melissa McCarthy and Elisabeth Moss…who would of thought?! Wives of Irish Mobsters, they basically run their husbands shit when they get locked up in the late 70’s. So, these 3 housewives take on their partners organised crime operations fully with no prior experience? To me, that sounds a pretty interesting watch. Bit of eye candy, Common, is also an FBI Agent within the film. The women clearly join forces to own the streets in a man’s world. UV hopes to give this a watch when it’s available to stream!
