Today, March 8th, marks International Women’s Day. For me, this is one of the most important dates on the calendar. It gives us an opportunity to celebrate ourselves and our achievements, show respect and gratitude to the women we admire and aspire to be like, and share solidarity and strength with those around us.
To many of us, the fight for gender equality is a day to day familiarity. But today, how are our actions consciously changing the way the world treats women? How are you promoting positive visibility for women, influencing the beliefs and actions of others for the benefit of women, how are you celebrating women’s achievements? Are you fighting for your sisters, and not just your cis-ters?
To me, part of being a feminist is being willing to always listen and learn from those around you. We are all individuals and our stories matter. If we take this journey through life with tunnel vision, it is impossible for us to be good allies to the very people we are fighting for.
Today, may we tell the women we love how important they are to us. May we rise together, fight together, and celebrate together. Happy International Women’s Day.
